About
Theatre in the Mill is looking for students who want to make and stage a play. You don’t need to arrive with everything worked out. You might already have a script you love, or simply have an idea, theme or kind of story you want to explore. We can help you find the right play, identify affordable options and secure the permissions you need to perform or adapt it. We’re particularly interested in students who see this as an opportunity to learn by making. You’ll take an active role in bringing the production to life — acting, directing, producing, designing and, where appropriate, adapting or rewriting the script. You can work with a contemporary play, a classic text or an older work reimagined for today. Adapting work that is out of copyright can also help keep production costs down.
Theatre in the Mill will support you with:
· Mentoring and feedback from theatre professionals
· Rehearsal and performance space
· Support with choosing and securing a script
· Production expenses, including set, costume and music costs
· Technical and creative advice
· Marketing and promotion
· A public performance of your finished production
This is a developmental opportunity: a chance to experiment, build your theatre-making skills, and experience what it takes to create a production from the first idea to the performance.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for groups of University of Bradford students 18 + who want to make a play together. You might already be friends, part of a society or studying together. You don’t need theatre experience, but you do need enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to get involved — acting, directing, rehearsing, adapting and helping bring the production to life.
