This wasn’t just about steel, tracks and trains – it was about honouring heritage, celebrating history and laying foundations for all the stations, junctions, and journeys still to come.
Theatre in the Mill is proud to support this exhibition, which takes a deep look at Muslim contributions to the rail industry in the UK and provides an insight into the Hejaz Railway as the world’s first Muslim railway and gateway to the Haramain – the Holy cities of Medina and Mecca. The exhibition is based on extensive research from archives and fieldwork to provide a detailed documentation of Muslim rail history. The exhibition was developed as a partnership between Muslims in Rail, the University of Bradford and The Institute of Heritage Sciences (INCIPIT) within the Spanish National Research Council (CISC). It will feature a specially commissioned scale model of the Mosque Wagon built in Istanbul .
The exhibition will include 20 x A1 panels of photographs and a bespoke ‘O’-gauge scale-model of the Mosque Wagon.
